There is an epidemic of malnutrition going on. Although water is not classified as a food because it has no calories it is by far the most important nutrient we consume. The human body is 75% water, we function because we are a chemistry lab and water is the main catalyst of all functions of the body. And yet the vast majority of us don’t consume enough even though it right in front of us throughout the day.

We tend to like the garbage that is added to water, the sugars, flavorings and colors, artificial sweeteners that will kill a cockroach and acids that remove rust from metals. And yet that beautiful clear liquid that a flow from several faucets throughout your house is ignored (ok so tap water is sometimes pretty crappy but you get the point). Even the so called healthy bottled water is often tainted with unnecessary flavorings, sweeteners and additives we don’t need in our systems and cleaver marketing tactics such as pH or smart water which have no scientifically proven benefits.

The rule of thumb is 1 liter/quart per 50 pounds of body weight per day, if you weigh 150 lbs. then 3 quarts per day, 200 lbs. 4 quarts. A good measure is how does your urine look, is it clear with no odor? Also when you consume enough water you sleep better, food will taste better, energy levels will increase and maintain, no sugar spikes, your skin and general appearance will improve and even weight loss can occur.

So stop spending money on sodas, sweet drinks, energy drinks and just drink plane filtered tap water, reverse osmosis, distilled or spring water. Your body will thank you.
